Gave this as a gift 14 months ago, however the port for the front/center speaker does not emit a signal for sound, even when I try to change speakers. when it worked it sounded good.
I bought my unit here in April 2009 and so far it performs well to my expectations. I brought mine in the Philippines and I have to buy a voltage converter to use it.The three items above doesn't make my buy a regret. There is no input jack for microphone.
The wires for the sorround speakers is tedious to set-up. It is a disappointment in that area.3. Just a few improvements that will make my buy PERFECT:1.
Too bad because the sound is soooo good and should be perfect for karaoke. The wires need to be hidden behind the wall because it doesn't have a good appearance as it runs to the walls and ceiling. A wireless sorround speaker will be a good addition.2.
It is just locked to 110 V voltage input. I am still happy with my home theater based on what it's got for a cheap price.
when the unit is on, it has a constantly blinking set of lights that is distracting - the action s/b on the screen, not the cool laser show from the front panel.sadly, i feel that this purchase for me was a mistake. bottom line, the 5.1 don't work - for me.
the picture quality and the newer connectors were an upgrade. the sound wasn't.
i bought this system to replace my 2003 panasonic. may be my error but i'm too old to work with a helpdesk to determine that it's broke and i need to de-assemble, re-box and return to sony.
not that i like it loud, but my six year old panasonic had much better sound quality(and quantity too - at 25%, it could clear the room - i have to set this one's volume at 66% just for normal listening). additionally, i bought this to receive the 5.1 digital from my pc's sound card but it converts it to stereo.
finally, and wierdly, it comes with a front panel light show (straight out of the 80's audio equipment world). the better picture quality doesn't offset the poor sound and distracting light show.
I have had this for a couple of months and am still suprised at how much I love it. Once you have the hdmi and optical cables set up it exactly what I wanted in a surround sound system.
The item i found to be of great quality, it gives great sound and it is clear.
